SUMMARY:The Western Route Capacity – Back to the Future
DESCRIPTION:Howard Pack\, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Group (CILT)\nThames Valley Section hybrid meeting\nJoint meeting with Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (CILT)\nFocusing closer to home on “Western Route Capacity – Back to the Future”\, Howard will talk about work done in 2016 to understand how the passenger and freight traffic forecasts from 2015 to 2043 could be reconciled with the existing infrastructure and the new passenger rolling stock. The complex study involved modelling and identifying the time period break points at which new infrastructure or rolling stock would be needed and the physical locations and interventions. Howard will make this understandable by outlining designs for grade separated junctions\, remodelling Paddington and the Didcot to Oxford corridor; and even using double-decker trains to maximise train capacity and obviate building new lines. \nMeeting in-person from 17:00 for refreshments courtesy of RailEI for a 17:45 start for all. \nYou can also join the meeting virtually through Microsoft Teams. \nJoin: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/376498555195546?p=hxyfCIAOi45kwd8EGm \nMeeting ID: 376 498 555 195 546 \nPasscode: oU2jR9ac \nDial in by phone \n+44 20 3321 5213\,\,926597566# United Kingdom\, City of London \nFind a local number \nPhone conference ID: 926 597 566# \nIf you are a RailEI member\, please book your space if would like this event to be automatically recorded in your CPD portfolio. \nBOOK YOUR SPACE HERE

SUMMARY:Spa Valley Railway - Broom Lane Bridge Replacement
DESCRIPTION:Alan Cudlipp\, Civil Engineering Manager\, Spa Valley Railway and Director and Principal Consultant\, Apex Rail Consultancy Ltd\nAshford Section online meeting\nSpa Valley Railway is a popular heritage railway in Kent. Broom Lane Bridge\, a Victorian steel rail-over-road structure\, was beyond economic repair and the presentation describes the cost effective replacement from design through fabrication to construction and opening to traffic.
