SUMMARY:Advanced Track Technician Mod 3 - July 2026
DESCRIPTION:PWI Advanced Track Technician Course\nModule 3 – Decision-making\, Planning and Management of Trackwork\nDelegates will learn how innovations in survey\, design\, maintenance\, renewal\, and project work can be harnessed to help make safe and efficient plans. Diversity and sustainability issues will be explored\, as will the interdependencies between the various engineering functions and train operations\, so that key management skills including decision making\, prioritisation\, record keeping\, data analysis\, and report writing are developed. Practical skills will be developed in plain line and S&C surveying and inspection\, rail and rail defect management\, mechanised alignment maintenance\, and rail stressing. \nFor full details and to download a booking form CLICK HERE \n

SUMMARY:Boots off Ballast: Transforming How We Inspect\, Maintain\, and Operate the Railway
DESCRIPTION:Dr Sin Sin Hsu\, Regional Engineer [Track\, Drainage and Off Track]\, Eastern\, Network Rail\nRailEI Lunch & Learn\nThis presentation outlines Network Rail’s “Boots Off Ballast” transformation programme\, reducing trackside working by adopting technologies such as AI‑enabled video inspection\, downward‑ and forward‑facing cameras\, remote condition monitoring\, and Unattended Geometry Measurement Systems.   With a vast and dispersed rail asset base\, rising safety risks\, and increasing performance demands\, digital tools now enable earlier defect detection\, improved hot‑weather resilience\, and significant time savings. Case studies show proactive identification of broken rails\, poor track geometry\, and other failures\, preventing delays and enhancing reliability. Ongoing innovation\, partnerships\, and data‑driven maintenance are central to achieving safer\, smarter\, and more efficient railway operations. \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/395902263031430?p=GLRYDVFAoziHDxmIbI \nMeeting ID: 395 902 263 031 430 \nPasscode: yT2q9Yi7 \nDial in by phone \n+44 20 3321 5213\,\,556261028# United Kingdom\, City of London \nFind a local number \nPhone conference ID: 556 261 028# \nIf you are a RailEI member\, please book your space if would like this event to be automatically recorded in your CPD portfolio. \nBOOK YOUR SPACE HERE

SUMMARY:Risk management within the asset management budget
DESCRIPTION:Tony Scriven\, Route Infrastructure Engineer\, Network Rail\, Western Route\nWest of England Section hybrid meeting\nTony Scriven\, Route Infrastructure Engineer for Network Rail’s Western Route\, explores a period of significant transformation across the network. Recent investment has delivered major enhancements\, including main line electrification to Bristol and South Wales\, the introduction of the Elizabeth Line\, and new rolling stock and freight services\, while future schemes such as MetroWest and Old Oak Common for HS2 continue to reshape the route. These developments are set against rising stakeholder expectations and a shift toward devolved decision-making closer to customers. \nWithin a constrained funding environment\, the route faces the complex challenge of balancing renewals and maintenance across nine engineering disciplines. The presentation will examine how to optimise outputs\, manage risk\, and respond to evolving cost pressures and working practices\, while also looking ahead to future funding periods and the transition to Great British Railways. \nMeeting in person from 12:45 for a 13:00 start for all.\nYou can also join the meeting virtually through Microsoft Teams. \nJoin: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/328475258166873?p=DhDFj7Bf2g9krBP3Qs \nMeeting ID: 328 475 258 166 873 \nPasscode: 9ED6mF3w \nDial in by phone \n+44 20 3321 5213\,\,614777137# United Kingdom\, City of London \nFind a local number \nPhone conference ID: 614 777 137# \nIf you are a RailEI member\, please book your space if would like this event to be automatically recorded in your CPD portfolio. \nBOOK YOUR SPACE HERE
