Car registration logging will be disabled for the evening. \nIn 2017\, SPL won the contract to electrify the Bedford to Kettering and Corby section of the Midland Main Line. In Sept 2020 they were awarded the extension from Kettering to Wigston as part of the National Electrification Programme. Both schemes were delivered on time and on budget. \nThe presentation will explore how SPL delivered these projects by introducing new and novel innovative ideas to electrification. These projects have been delivered through a time of ever changing standards and new processes to reduce the cost of electrification. They also developed a new basic design range of Overhead Contact Systems (OCS) equipment with Network Rail as part of the route development. SPL has implemented new ideas to achieve the successful energisation and been responsible for carrying out the train testing of the new electrification – a first for any electrification contractor in the UK. \n**Meeting in-person from 17:30 for a 18:00 start. DESCRIPTION:Joint meeting with IMechE: Low cost signalling for branch or rural lines – key token instruments and radio electronic token block – Robin Lee\, Network Rail\nNottingham & Derby Section in-person meeting\nSynopsis: Robin Lee\, CEng\, MIRSE works in product development for Park Signalling Limited in Stockport\, UK. He is currently leading the development of the trackside element of Network Rail’s degraded mode working system and was previously involved in developing trackworker warning systems\, key token instruments and supporting Network Rail’s radio based limited supervision ETCS project.\nThe talk will outline the challenges and a number of methods of signalling single track railway lines. There is often little funding available for lightly used rural lines. Park Signalling’s key token instruments (DiBloC)and Radio Electronic Token Block (RETB) systems will be explained.
