DESCRIPTION:Tony Knipe\, Track Maintenance Manager and Niall Mellon\, Senior Project Engineer\, Northern Ireland Railways\, Permanent Way Department\nIrish Section hybrid meeting\nSynopsis: The NI Railways Permanent Way Department will present on its award winning ‘Rail Health’ strategy. They won the Asset Management and Maintenance Excellence category at the recent Rail Business Awards. This strategy was introduced in 2020 and aligned multiple key inspection and maintenance routines\, including ultrasonic and eddy current testing\, replacement of key assets\, and rail milling. The presentation will cover developing and implementing the strategy and give detail on the benefits realised by considering the rail as a system.a high performing durable railway. \nLight refreshments from 13:00 for a 14:00 start. \nProspective members and visitors are welcome – there is no charge to attend. DESCRIPTION:Oliver Watts\, Project Manager\, Translink\nStacy Clements\, Lead Consultant\, Simon Wheat\, Principal Engineer (Rail) and Ken Carter\, Senior Engineer (Geotechnics)\, Ove Arup & Partners\nGreg Ramsay\, Project Manager and Dan Reddy\, Contractors Engineering Manager\, Babcock Rail Limited\nJohn Fullerton\, Director\, Gravis Planning\nIrish Section meeting\nSynopsis: Situated within a cutting just north of Belfast containing a number of overline structures\, the ‘Dark Arches’ is the local name for a section of twin track which has required many interventions over the years to maintain track quality. It was renewed during a 10 day line closure over Christmas 2021 with significant works completed in advance. The Project Team will present and discuss the project in greater detail including history\, initiation\, design\, delivery and overall management\, highlighting numerous technical challenges presented by the site\, the solutions developed and the construction methods employed to resolve the root causes for the problems to produce a high performing durable railway. \nLight refreshments from 13:00 for a 14:00 start. \nProspective members and visitors are welcome – there is no charge to attend.
