SUMMARY:Overhead Electrification: Can the negatives outweigh the positives?
DESCRIPTION:John Dolan\, PWI Fellow\nLondon Section meeting\nSynopsis: Electrification\, particularly overhead electrification at high voltage\, is generally seen in a positive way. Typical benefits claimed include the simplification (and thus reduction of cost) of rail vehicles\, the local elimination of pollution\, especially if the alternative is a diesel powered vehicle\, and a cleaner image. However\, there are wider cost and external effects. These are not always fully thought through as an electrification scheme moves from the feasibility stage\, through design and construction\, to taking into use\, and to the operations and maintenance phase. \nWe look forward to welcoming our PWI Members and guests in person courtesy of RSSB. \nMeeting from 17:15 for an 17:45 start. \nRefreshments and venue courtesy of the RSSB. \nDirections to the Helicon building:\nFrom Liverpool Street National Rail concourse take the Broadgate exit to Eldon Street\, and continue into South Place.
