SUMMARY:Leaves on the Line - A Gripping Reality (Part Two)
DESCRIPTION:Louis Schmandt\, Technical Engineer\, Chiltern Railways\, Rob Cummings\, Seasonal Performance Improvement Manager\, Northern Rail and Roger Lewis\, Professor of Mechanical Engineering\, University of Sheffield\nThames Valley Section hybrid meeting\nJoint meeting with IMechE\nAn update of the work of the Adhesion Rail Group.\nBack in May 2022\, Louis Schmandt delivered a presentation entitled “Leaves on the Line – A Gripping Reality” (Part One)\, where he gave us a comprehensive insight into both the historic and current cutting-edge workstreams within the adhesion research sphere. Louis returns this January\, along with his colleagues\, Rob Cummings and Professor Roger Lewis\, with Part Two!\nNorthern Trains is the largest UK operator by number of stations and route miles. Many of these routes and stations are in areas that become challenging in Autumn with vegetation coverage and gradients being a particular issue. As a consequence\, low adhesion\, particularly in autumn conditions\, is a significant challenge. Rob will take us on a journey\, explaining how Northern tackled this issue with innovations such as Double Variable Rate Sanders and Water-Trak\, as well as supporting the development of Cryogenic Cleaning with the University of Sheffield. Roger will tell the story of how these cutting-edge innovations have moved from the lab to the field\, covering the fundamental aspects of low adhesion mechanisms and helping us better understand both current and future\, planned mitigations. Like Part One\, this promises to be gripping stuff!. \nMeeting in-person from 17:00 for refreshments courtesy of the PWI for a 17:45 start for all. \nYou can also join the meeting virtually through Microsoft Teams. \nJoin the meeting now \nMeeting ID: 351 333 291 422 43 \nPasscode: bK6TJ7hf \nDial in by phone \n+44 20 3321 5213\,\,847920677# United Kingdom\, City of London \nFind a local number \nPhone conference ID: 847 920 677# \nIf you are a PWI member\, please book your space if would like this event to be automatically recorded in your CPD portfolio. \nBOOK YOUR SPACE HERE
