New thinking on curve overthrow calculations in gauging

Synopsis: D/Gauge continue to research and investigate gauging scenarios as a core objective and are excited to present new thinking on curve overthrow calculations. Currently, due to new automated surveys, calculations can be faced with a mix of under- and over-predictions of a vehicle’s swept envelope. The latest technique which D/Gauge have developed is to use smoothing algorithms on curvature measurements to extract pseudo design curvature without eliminating design features such as transitions.
Even more exciting is the ability to use this curvature to calculate overthrows on transition curves without the need to resort to complex track string analysis. D/Gauge has developed a methodology that accurately models the swept path of the entire vehicle, giving a considerably better estimate of the swept envelope on transition curve.
