Major Projects and Programmes : multi-disciplinary challenges and engineering judgement explores how large scale rail developments bring together civil, electrical, signalling, operations and environmental teams under one programme. The seminar examines the competing pressures that arise when technical requirements, budget constraints, safety standards and stakeholder demands pull in different directions. It focuses on where engineering judgement becomes critical: making decisions with incomplete data, balancing risk versus delivery timelines and integrating disciplines so the system works as a whole, not just as separate parts.
Through case studies of complex rail upgrades and new builds, speakers will unpack how experienced engineers navigate uncertainty, challenging assumptions, and choose the “least wrong” path when no perfect solution exists.
This Seminar will include opportunities for delegate interaction and participation, offering facilitated discussions and Q&As.
