Encouraged by senior colleagues, University lecturers, and PWI members; I began applying for my EngTech in early 2023 whilst working full-time and studying the final year of my BEng. I was motivated to take this first step on the ladder of professional accreditation for several reasons – demonstrating my commitment to the sector and engineering profession, increasing my professional experience and chances of passing my apprenticeship, improving my future employability, and taking advantage of my employer’s generous bonus scheme for professional registration to name but a few.

Having successfully been accredited EngTech in November 2023, I can say that although the process was time-consuming it was also extremely well-supported, with extensive resources available on the PWI’s website. My employer’s Corporate Member allocation of free EngTech applications also greatly eased the cost! Altogether, it was a challenging milestone but one that I am incredibly pleased with – I strongly advise others to pursue their EngTech through the PWI.

I am very proud to now have the post-nominal ‘EngTech MPWI’, which I hope will serve as further proof of my dedication to railway engineering; and provide the initial foundation upon which I may build a long and rewarding career as a professional railway engineer.
