Can you tell us a bit about your background?

I am a dedicated railway professional with over 10 years of experience in the rail infrastructure environment. My career began with a multidisciplinary engineering apprenticeship at Volker Rail, where I gained hands-on experience across various engineering disciplines. Since then, I have progressed through a range of technical and leadership roles, culminating in my current position as a Senior Construction Manager at Aureos. 

What inspired you to pursue Chartered Engineer (CEng) status?

Becoming a Chartered Engineer was something I aspired to from the very first day of my apprenticeship. From the outset of my career, I have deliberately shaped my professional journey around projects and development opportunities that would build the competences required for CEng recognition. Each role I’ve taken on has been a step toward that goal—broadening my technical expertise, strengthening my leadership skills, and deepening my understanding of the rail infrastructure environment. 

How did you find the Professional Registration process with the PWI?

The process was incredibly straightforward and easy to follow. I was fortunate to have a great mentor and Sponsor who provided strong internal guidance throughout. In addition, the PWI was exceptionally accommodating and professional—any questions I had were answered promptly, often on the same day. Their support made the entire experience smooth and reassuring.  

How will CEng recognition help you in your career?

Achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng) status will significantly benefit my career by opening the door to a wider range of engineering opportunities and long-term development prospects. It not only enhances my professional credibility but also connects me to a broader technical community. 

I intend to make full use of the internal resources offered by the Permanent Way Institution (PWI), including forums, seminars, and technical discussions. Engaging with these platforms—and sharing the challenges I encounter in my work—will allow me to grow further and contribute to collective problem-solving within the industry. 

I’ve had the privilege of following a strong development path, and now I’m passionate about giving back. I want to support others, particularly those coming through the apprenticeship route, in gaining the competences and experience needed to achieve CEng status themselves.
