My name is Charlotte Linn, and I am a Senior OLE/OCS Design Engineer in Glasgow. I graduated in 2015 with a BEng (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering and have been working in Overhead Line Engineering since 2016. I have worked on projects in both the UK and Australia, and I have recently obtained my CEng Professional Registration.
Why did you want to become professionally registered?
For me, this was the next step in my professional career and was recognition from an independent source that I was ready for the next step in my career. My decision to pursue Professional Registration with the Institution represents more than just achieving a professional qualification. It demonstrates my commitment to continuous improvement, technical excellence, and ethical practice within railway engineering. Professional Registration enhances my credibility as a mentor and provides a structured framework through which I can guide others in their professional development. This aligns with my personal commitment to supporting the next generation of railway engineers through training, mentorship, and STEM activities in schools.
How did you find the process?
As I didn’t meet the academic criteria for CEng, throughout my career, the idea of being professionally registered seemed out of reach. I decided to do a bit of research and attended one of your CPD events which outlined the different options available to me. I decided to go down the Experiential Learning route, and once that was accepted, I moved forward with the full CEng application. Throughout the whole process, your Registration staff have been invaluable and so helpful and professional.
How will CEng recognition help you in your career?
The Institution provides access to a community of like-minded professionals working in similar technical domains. This community offers invaluable opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and mentorship. Being part of this network allows me to stay connected with industry trends, innovations, and good practices specific to railway infrastructure engineering.
