Tell us about yourself

I’m Meik Jensen, 58 years old, and besides having graduated as a Car Bodybuilder I don’t have much other formal education (apart from School and a bit of military). I’m Danish by birth but have been in the UK for the last 21 years.

I currently have over 20 years of experience across rail-civils and civils in the UK, and 15 years in Denmark and other Nordic countries. I’m currently operating as CRE-C, TWC, AP and Project Construction Manager on projects including HS2, Thameslink, major station builds, and a plethora of smaller projects across the UK. I’ve led multidisciplinary teams, managed high-risk works within possession constraints, and consistently delivered projects in line with Network Rail standards. My background in temporary works, sequencing, and constructability allows me to add value from early design through to delivery.

Why did you want to become professionally registered?

I’m a bit of a shy guy, and not very good at promoting myself, but after working in the industry for many years I thought it was time to break the cover and prove my skills and knowledge to the world, and becoming EngTech was the first step on the way. Getting the acceptance letter and certificate was a big day for me. 

How did you find the process?

In the beginning, the process seems insurmountable but as you get going, it becomes hard to limit yourself. My initial review was that I have far too many pages, so the process of eliminating, strangely, became the hardest part. 

I would encourage anyone that has been thinking about if for years just as I did, to get the process started.

How will EngTech recognition help you in your career?

I hope that people will see and recognise that hard work has been put into proving myself, and I think that in the long term it can help me become more valuable for the company and help me land better projects within the company.
