Prefabricated Renewals in a Heritage Environment
May 6 @ 17:45 - 19:15

Steven Tomsett, Civil Engineering Manager, Great Western Society Didcot
Thames Valley Section hybrid meeting
This presentation will tell the story of the re design and reconstruction of the approach layout to the 8 lines carriage shed at Didcot Railway Centre. Steven will explain the revised geometry necessary to overcome restricted access, the fabrication of new turnouts and plain line using polymer bearers and sleepers, all in bullhead, the recovery of the old layout and the installation of the new layout over the 2025/6 winter period. The sequence of turnouts in the layout has been used to show the development of bullhead turnout design in the pre flat bottom era. Visitor access to the Centre had to be maintained throughout.
