Sustainable infrastructure design and maintenance
PWI Technical Seminar
Members £85 Non-members £150 Students £10
The railway has a big role to play in helping tackle climate change through the sustainable service it provides to passengers and freight operators, thereby achieving its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 (2045 in Scotland). An industry approach is needed to address the complex environmental and financial issues at play. The industry will need to come together to deliver new infrastructure policies and standards which have sustainability at their heart. This will in turn drive innovation through new, improved ways of renewing and maintaining the permanent way, whilst maintaining an affordable lifecycle cost.
The seminar will tackle three railway industry themes critical to achieving a sustainable infrastructure; strategic thinking, infrastructure resilience, and designing for maintainability and sustainability. This comes at a time when the industry needs to challenge itself to collaborate, design, build, operate and maintain a safe and reliable railway infrastructure that delivers value for money for passengers and freight operators in a sustainable manner. The guest speakers will provide their views on the new paradigm of changing travel patterns, improving personal track safety whilst maximising revenue.
