The role of the Regional Facilities Manager
16/01/2024 @ 16:30 - 18:00

Dave Billington, Network Rail
Lancaster, Barrow & Carlisle Section in-person meeting
Synopsis: The Supply Chain Operations Directorate of Network Rail, which operates within its Route Services function, is responsible for the operation of as many as eleven separate types of depot throughout the UK from the north of Scotland to Cornwall. Dave Billington begins his presentation by explaining the different functions of these depots, which range from specialised materials supply and manufacturing sites for permanent way and civil engineering tasks through to seasonal stabling depots for maintenance vehicles, and appraising the current conditions at these sites across the network. From this he goes on to demonstrate the rationale for the creation, in 2019, of a national Regional Facilities team with a remit to investigate, evaluate and implement improvements at these locations, which were previously overlooked in terms of investment and constitute the workplace for a significant number of members of Network Rail staff; in particular they frequently harbour significant levels of legacy risk. Several examples of relatively small but effective modernisation projects at depot sites are presented, together with a description of their impact on performance indicators at a local and national level.
Meeting in-person from 16:00 for a 16:30 start. Transport available between railway station and venue, courtesy of Network Rail.
