Keith Orgill, Head of OLE, Egis Transport Solutions & Director, OLE Ltd will be joining us at the upcoming Electrification Seminar to discuss upgrading existing electrification to meet customer needs. Read on to learn more about Keith’s journey.
About Keith
Keith is a railway electrification engineer with over 40 years’ experience, initially with British Rail, followed by Atkins and Network Rail before establishing OLE Limited in 2008. OLE Limited was acquired by Egis in February 2025, and Keith is now the Head of OLE for Egis in the UK.
How did you start your career in the rail industry?
As a Technician Trainee for BR M&EE at the Railway Technical Centre in Derby August 1981.
Tell us a little about your career experiences to date.
The early part of my career in OLE design and construction was definitely the most fun, with great learning experiences that I refer back to regularly for current projects. Achieving promotion to increasingly senior positions was both challenging and rewarding, with learning from mentors along the way. Establishing OLE Limited in 2008 was the realisation of a long held ambition to work independently and build an excellent design team. This also lead to collaboration with a group of other SMEs to deliver multi disciplinary projects more cost effectively and with better engineering solutions than the large consultancies. The invention of the headspan to portal conversion was probably the main achievement in my career, so far!
What does an average day look like for you?
A mix of engineering and business management.
Why did you want to present in a PWI technical seminar?
To inform the PWI and wider rail industry on what can be achieved for modest investment, and shameless promotion of OLE Limited!
What’s the best bit of advice you have for someone looking to work in the rail industry?
Do it! And take every opportunity given to you to develop your knowledge and experience.
What are some of the biggest challenges of your current role?
Winning work in the current dearth of CP7 projects.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
Providing affordable, robust and high-quality engineering solutions.
