Matthew’s Experience on the 3rd & 4th Rail Electrification Course

Name: Matthew Griffiths

Role: Volunteer Administrative Assistant

Company: Great Central Railway

Education: Master’s degree, Mechanical Engineering

The 3rd/4th Rail Electrification Course was extremely interesting and useful, and the teaching style was very effective, with a good balance of time allocated for learning, asking questions, and completing the assessment. Both of the principal instructors were extremely welcoming and happy to answer even the most basic questions, which, as someone taking the course from outside the industry, was extremely valuable to me.

Both had a wealth of knowledge on the subject, from more simple aspects of arrangements to highly specific and useful nuggets of information that would be very hard to learn elsewhere. The guest lecturers were also very interesting and insightful, coming from the other side of the industry and helping the balance between TfL and Network Rail practices on different networks.  I very much enjoyed the course and will be looking to book onto more in the future.
