Overview
The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is a unique 5-mile branch line railway set in the heart of West Yorkshire, running heritage steam and diesel trains from the industrial landscape of Keighley to the stunning Brontë Country of Oxenhope. Over 50 years ago, the Railway was saved from obscurity by a relatively small group of very dedicated railway supporters. From these small beginnings, an extremely large and varied volunteer family has grown to operate and manage this leading preserved Railway. The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway are very proud of everyone who volunteers to keep this Railway where it is today. Whether driving a train, selling visitors tickets or maintaining the infrastructure, our Railway would not exist without them.

A famous railway
The Keighley & Worth Valley is perhaps most famous for its role in the 1970 film version of Edith Nesbit’s story, The Railway Children, and the 2022 sequel The Railway Children Return. Other film credits include Yanks, Another Brick in the Wall, Swallows & Amazons, Peaky Blinders and Testament Of Youth.
The Railway hosts several events throughout the year, including the Steam Gala & Diesel Galas. and the ever-popular Beer and Music Festival. You can also enjoy our evening events, such as the Haworth Haddock, travel on the train, enjoy your meal before alighting at the station, and dance the night away. Finishing off the year with the collection of festive events, including the sell-out Elf Explorer, Carol Service Train & Mulled Wine Specials.
The railway’s infrastructure is maintained by a large group of volunteers including people of all ages and skills, from practising engineers within the industry down to retired bus drivers and IT consultants.
