Snowdon Mountain Railway

Overview
Take a one-of-a-kind journey to the summit of Snowdon aboard the Snowdon Mountain Railway. Britain’s only public rack-and-pinion railway, it is one of the UK’s most distinctive attractions. This year marks 130 years of carrying passengers to the highest peak in Wales, continuing a tradition that began in 1896.
Snowdon Mountain Railway
A famous railway
Passengers can choose the Heritage Steam Service for the romance of a Victorian locomotive or opt for the Traditional Diesel Service. Departing from Llanberis Station, the railway ascends through rugged mountain scenery as panoramic views unfold across Snowdonia and, on a clear day, towards Ireland and the Lake District.
At the top, climb the steps to the summit cairn, then fuel up at Hafod Eryri, the UK’s highest visitor centre, before the descent to Llanberis. Advance booking is highly recommended – especially during peak season – to secure your seat in this landmark anniversary year.
