Munir’s Fellowship Experience

Munir, Technical Director at AECOM, shares his experience of achieving Fellowship with the Institution and what this milestone means for his career and industry impact.

I found the Fellowship process with the Permanent Way Institution to be both thorough and genuinely reflective of senior professional practice. It provided a valuable opportunity to step back and critically review my journey in OLE/OCS engineering, leadership, and delivery across complex rail programmes. The process was well structured, professionally administered, and appropriately rigorous, giving me confidence in the standing and credibility of the Fellowship grade. I particularly valued the emphasis on demonstrating not only technical competence but also industry influence and leadership.

Achieving RailEI Fellowship is a significant milestone in my career as an OLE/OCS leader. It strengthens my professional credibility when engaging with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and international delivery partners. More importantly, it positions me to contribute at a more strategic level – driving technical excellence, improving design assurance practices, and supporting innovation in rail electrification. The Fellowship also reinforces my commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers within the industry. I view this recognition not as a culmination, but as a responsibility to continue raising standards and shaping the future of rail electrification delivery.
