Future testing and validation – overcoming challenges when introducing new technology
08/05/2024 @ 17:00 - 18:45

Sharon Odetunde, Head of Academic Partnerships, RSSB
London Section hybrid meeting
Synopsis: Introducing new technology to the operating railway is often a challenging and costly process. In particular full scale operational testing, particularly in service testing, for validation and homologation purposes is often costly and difficult to plan and can have significant impact on the network. There is the opportunity to use advanced technologies to reduce the cost and risks involved in early testing and homologation, but this requires a sound understanding of the impact that using such technologies have on the results dependability and level of accuracy. RSSB and the University of Birmingham have been working on a developing a route map to outline the steps the rail industry can take to achieve improvements in testing and validation.
