Optimising Switching and Sectioning Arrangements for Overhead Line – Switching and sectioning of overhead line is essential for safe and reliable operation and maintenance of overhead line; however much current sectioning practice has its roots in railway operation of the 1950s, and drives significant cost in lineside traction equipment. Paul Hooper and Garry Keenor explain the work that AtkinsRéalis has undertaken for Network Rail to rationalise the way that new electrification schemes are configured, giving rise to the potential to remove significant cost from future schemes.
