Integrating Multi-Source Data for Proactive Railway Track Maintenance: A Case Study of the A2 Corridor in the Netherlands
Karim El Laham, Fugro
PWI Lunch & Learn
The railway track system consists of various components, from subsoil to ballast, rail, fasteners, and sleepers. Maintenance often relies on superstructure data, which describes the track’s state symptomatically, leading to reactive maintenance. This presentation introduces a data-driven maintenance framework developed during Karim’s doctorate at TU Delft. It integrates all accessible track information to contextualize superstructure data and enhance asset understanding. The framework’s application along the A2 corridor in the Netherlands, a track with embankment stability issues, will be discussed. Data sources include L-band satellite data, CPTS, boreholes, and track information (fibre optic/RTG/construction). The goal is to consolidate information, enabling departments to address multidisciplinary railway track problems, focusing on embankment behavior, and achieving tailored maintenance to reduce asset ownership costs.
