Learning from Carmont: The importance of drainage asset management

Thames Valley Section hybrid meeting

Synopsis: The talk will summarise the Rail Accident Investigation Branch report (report 02/2022) into the fatal derailment of 1T08 which was the 06:38 hrs service from Aberdeen to Glasgow on the 12th August 2020 and explore what lessons have been learnt following the accident.
Insights will be provided about the practical steps taken by the author in his day to day work continuously to improve the way in which drainage assets are managed across the Western Route with specific examples about why checking As Built records is critical and the importance of ensuring a complete asset inventory is available to those managing drainage assets.
