M6 Clifton Bridge Replacement
October 13 @ 15:00 - 17:00

Warren Rigby, Design Manager and John Holmes, Project Manager, Skanska UK
Lancaster, Barrow and Carlisle Section in-person meeting
This presentation will provide an overview of the replacement of the bridge carrying the West Coast Main Line over the M6 motorway at Clifton, Cumbria. The project involved the demolition of the existing 1960 post-tensioned structure and the design, fabrication and installation of a new 130 metre bridge structure within a highly constrained environment above one of the UK’s busiest motorways and rail corridors. The presentation will contain an account of the planning and execution of the works, including stakeholder collaboration, innovation and management of interfaces with both the railway and National Highways; it will also reflect on the key challenges encountered, lessons learned, and the benefits achieved through early contractor involvement and close collaboration across the project team.
Please meet under the PALS Memorial at the top of the subway steps to Platforms 3 and 4 at 15:00. You’ll be escorted into the venue from there. Light refreshments will be available before the meeting starts at 15:30.
