The presenters will guide attendees through the restoration, maintenance, renewal, funding resourcing required for a heritage railway, with an emphasis on the Permanent Way the discussion will cover a range of topics including:
Historical Context – Understanding the history and importance of the heritage railway in the wider context of the national rail network.
Restoration/maintenance/renewal/funding/resource etcetera Challenges – Addressing the physical and engineering challenges encountered when restoring old trackwork, from sourcing authentic materials to maintaining safety and reliability standards.
Innovations and Techniques – How modern engineering solutions are being applied to preserve and enhance the railway, while maintaining its historical integrity.
Sustainability and the Future – How heritage railways balance the need for modernisation with the preservation of heritage, ensuring the future of rail travel and heritage tourism.
The presentation will be enriched with visual aids, including photos of the restoration process, before-and-after comparisons, and footage from key milestones in the restoration of the Permanent Way.

Meeting in-person from 17:00 for a 17:30 start. Light refreshments available.
