Timetable Planning
08/10/2024 @ 16:30 - 18:00

Rob Cummings, Northern Trains and Vice President North West England & North Wales, PWI
Lancaster, Barrow and Carlisle Section in-person meeting
Railways are a guided form of transport, which can mean that a rail corridor is narrower than an equivalent roadway and can have a high throughput of traffic, if used efficiently. However the system does not allow overtaking (outside a loop) and requires the controlled separation of traffic moving at different speeds and making conflicting moves at junctions.
The timetable provides this control, but also comprises the railway’s offering to the public who want to use it, and determines the costs incurred in the form of fleet size, train mileage (fuel and maintenance) and train crew requirements. In this presentation Rob Cummings, Seasonal Performance Improvement Manager, will describe the process of timetable planning and explain the conflicts in space and resource that have to be resolved in order for a timetable to be created.
Meeting in-person from 16:00 for a 16:30 start. Light refreshments available.
If you are a PWI member, please book your space if would like this event to be automatically recorded in your CPD portfolio.
