Track Geometry and Japan experience

UK PWay Engineers are well aware of Japan’s excellent and extensive high speed Shinkansen system. However, this only comprises a small portion of the Japanese railway industry, which is the 2nd second largest, and one of the richest in the world. This presentation introduces the amazing size and complexity of the Japanese rail network, along with its many contradictions, both in the engineering and the people who run it. It uses the history and products of two companies who together show two very different sides of Japan’s railways. We will look at some of the orthodox things they do and some that are just baffling from a UK perspective.
