Name: Dominic Taylor
Role: Team Leader
Company: Network Rail
Level of Professional Registration: EngTech
Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I have worked in the railway industry for 10 years and thoroughly enjoyed my time and experiences. I started my career as a contractor, predominantly working on S&C renewal sites, and then moved to Network Rail. I am currently a Track Inspection Team Leader for Ashford Track. I cover various roles and responsibilities and enhance my knowledge through different experiences and by working within a great team.
I look forward to the future ahead of me. Outside of work, I am a husband and father to my magnificent son, and I enjoy playing golf.
Why did you want to become professionally registered?
I started my journey on the railway at 18 years old as a gateman and driver for the gangs and it was purely a job to just get me started in life. As the years progressed, so did I, along with my enjoyment and passion for the rail industry. A job soon transformed into a career. Having come so far from the start of my journey, becoming professionally registered as EngTech means so much to me personally and professionally; it has really stamped my career with meaning. Becoming professionally registered has demonstrated my competence and understanding of railway engineering and was an incredibly important step in my career.
How did you find the Professional Registration process with the PWI?
Brilliant. The process is made extremely user-friendly by the PWI, who offer great support and guidance throughout your application. A huge thank you to my sponsor, Alexander Ross, who made the process of applying for professional registration seamless and enjoyable.
How do you consider being recognised with EngTech status as helping you in your career?
Having EngTech status is a great recognition of my knowledge and experience in railway engineering and not only demonstrates my competence and understanding but also shows that I am committed to developing and enhancing myself. My EngTech status opens doors for new opportunities in my career but also holds credibility and gives me the confidence to take those next steps in my journey.
Thank you, Dominic, for sharing your journey and choosing to pursue Professional Registration with the PWI.
