I decided to join the PWI as I wanted to be part of an engineering community with likeminded people. Having the opportunity to attend seminars hosted by industry experts where knowledge is shared to continuously improve my own knowledge and abilities was the main reason I decided to apply. I wanted to be rewarded for the hard work I had put in over the course of my TfL apprenticeship and was delighted when the PWI Membership Committee accepted my application.

The process of applying for PWI registration was made simple and smooth by the helpfulness of its registration team – particularly Liz as she was always only a phone call or email away. Having Paul Ebbutt, an industry expert who now works with the PWI, review and sponsor my application, meant I was able to receive feedback on the strength of my application. It was intriguing to reflect on my experience in order to complete the application form and it made me realise that I have a lot more experience than I previously thought.

Now being professionally registered with the PWI I need to keep track of a Continuous Professional Development Log (CPD) as well as Personal Development Plan (PDP). Having to work and update these will allow me to keep track of my progression and set myself goals to work towards and achieve. These will prevent me from becoming too ‘comfortable’ with the level I am working at and will always give goals to achieve.
