Development of Pandrol Track Fastening Product Range

The company began its existence in the UK in 1937 as the Elastic Rail Spike Company, which opened its manufacturing plant at Worksop in Nottinghamshire shortly afterwards. In 1957 Per Rande Rolfsen invented the uniquely shaped spring clip which became specified as a standard track fastening on the UK rail network within a decade, resulting in the change of name to Pandrol in 1972. Today’s range of products has expanded to include equipment which enhances the efficiency of railway maintenance and construction, sustainable resilient systems which extend the life of track and electrification catenary systems.

This presentation focuses on the track fastening product range, highlighting the milestones which have occurred in its development. It also details innovations which have contributed to the efficient installation of permanent way, with associated reductions in carbon emissions and improved safety.
