Light rail on the Fylde Coast: A decade of hope

Synopsis: Tim Kendell, the Technical Director of the Light Rail Transit Association, examines light rail developments in the Blackpool and Fylde Coast area. It features an account of the Blackpool Tramway extension from the Promenade to North Station, which is currently under construction as part of the Talbot Gateway project, and an analysis of the applicability of findings of a European research programme on light and heavy rail integration (in which the Fylde Coast region participated as a case study area) to the Fylde area, including proposals for the South Fylde Line between Kirkham and Blackpool South. The potential reinstatement of the Fleetwood to Poulton line is also covered.

Members and visitors are warmly invited to attend this Christmas social meeting, which includes a buffet, courtesy of The PWI,  from 16:00 onwards and represents a particular opportunity for recently joined members to meet others in a social setting.

Directions: The club is located by leaving Preston station via the main access road and turning left to walk down Fishergate as far as the second traffic signals junction (Hartington Road) on the right. The premises are located adjacent to the junction (total distance from station 0.4 miles). Limited on-street parking is available on Hartington Road opposite the club.
