Slip happens: When slope monitoring fails silently
January 20 @ 12:30 - 13:30

James Stewart, Technology Director, DYWIDAG
PWI Lunch & Learn
This presentation introduces Smart Guard by DYWIDAG as a next-generation approach to slope monitoring that challenges price-driven design assumptions. While monitoring solutions are often selected on sensor cost alone, critical factors such as communication resilience, reliance on single versus multiple gateways, transmission technology choice, and speed of event notification are frequently overlooked – despite their direct impact on risk, availability, and safety outcomes. Using real-world slope monitoring scenarios, the session explores how Smart Guard integrates robust tilt sensing with resilient low-power communications and event-driven alerting to ensure reliable data delivery when conditions deteriorate, vegetation is dense, and weather is adverse. Attendees will gain insight into why system architecture and notification latency matter as much as sensor accuracy, and how a reliability-led design philosophy can fundamentally improve confidence in slope stability management.
