Synopsis: Built in 1863 as part of the Newcastle and North Shields Railway, Tanners Bank Bridge in North Shields was replaced in the Summer of 2022 by Nexus and their contractor, Taziker Industrial. The bridge had been earmarked for replacement as part of the Nexus’s Asset Renewal programme following increased maintenance and inspection requirements in recent years. As well as replacing a structure nearing the end of its life, the increased headroom created by the design of the new bridge enables taller vehicles to use Tanners Bank, increasing connectivity between North Shields town centre and the Fish Quay and in turn, supporting North Tyneside Council’s Regeneration Strategy.
