Do you know a railway engineer who deserves to showcase their knowledge and gain recognition for their commitment to CPD? Can think of someone who has gone over and above when it comes to training and upskilling their technical skills and knowledge? Think their dedication deserves to be recognised?
Well, look no further than The PWI Barbo Awards 2023. This prestigious awards program celebrates achievements in railway engineering, honouring an individual that is making an exceptional commitment to their CPD and in turn improving standards within the rail infrastructure industry through their contributions. In this blog post, we’ll explore everything you need to know to enter The PWI Barbo Awards 2023 and put someone’s talents on full display.
The PWI Barbro Awards are named after the late Alison Stansfield, who was a longstanding member of The PWI and had a passion for people’s life journey and their ability to better themselves. Therefore, this award scheme was created to enhance technical excellence within the railway industry, creating motivation and inspiration for improvements in the industry.
The entries will all receive a thorough evaluation by a panel of industry judges from within The PWI community. The judges will review all submissions, assessing levels of personal development, progress within the industry, demonstration of leadership, sustainability, diversity & inclusion, development of others and promoting the benefits of working within the rail infrastructure sector. All nominees must be current members of The PWI, however, they can be nominated by colleagues throughout the railway sector.
Winning a PWI Barbo Award is not only a huge accomplishment for any railway engineer, but it can also help take their career to the next level. Demonstrating expertise and innovation in the field, it can significantly enhance their professional reputation and open new doors for exciting opportunities. Whether they’re early in their career or a seasoned veteran, entering The PWI Barbo Awards 2023 is an excellent way to gain recognition for their work and take steps towards a brighter future.
Last year’s winner Tony Morgani shared with us his thoughts about winning the Barbro Award.

‘Being shortlisted for the 2022 BARBRO Award came as a surprise to me; I had in fact nominated someone else and fully supported them as worthy winners of an award for outstanding personal development and progress within the industry.
When I was contacted and informed that I had been nominated, I was flattered to be associated with the first iteration of this accolade in memory of Alison Stansfield, a person who had gone out of her way to make me feel welcome when I first became a member of The PWI and who will remain greatly missed.
To then go on and become the inaugural winner of this prestigious award was a real honour and I was truly humbled to be acknowledged by the institute to have achieved something worthy of the recognition of my peers.
To receive such an award at this stage of my career will only support my progress and is the validation of the fantastic ongoing support and investment of Murphy in their staff.
On a personal level, it was nice to feel that appreciation of the efforts I’ve made supporting the institute and towards the development of myself and those around me and this award motivates me to continue to do so.
I strongly encourage others to look around your teams and to consider nominating individuals who have achieved against the awarding criteria. To be recognised in this way is a great validation of the good work you are doing and the manner in which you are doing it. It’s important as busy professionals that we make time to take stock and give credit to those who are operating at an exceptional level.’
If you know someone like Tony who deserves recognition, then nominate them for The PWI Barbo Awards 2023. Whether a seasoned professional or just starting out, don’t miss this chance to take their career to the next level so they gain the recognition they deserve. So, what are you waiting for?
