US railroad stations – Could it work here?
10/04/2024 @ 17:15 - 18:45

John Dolan, Lead Principal, Ricardo and FPWI
John is an infrastructure, operations and safety specialist, who started as a student trainee with British Rail and who has subsequently held various maintenance management and consultancy positions. He now works for Ricardo as a Lead Principal.
Since the start of 2024, John has, as Lead Assessor for both Assessment Body CSM and Approved Body NTSN, carried out assessments for four station reconstructions that have now each received authority for Entry Into Service from ORR. Amongst his current projects is a new 8 platform terminus (not in UK)
London Section hybrid meeting
Synopsis: Do you think that lessons can be learnt from the approach elsewhere to station design, operation, restoration and location? This is your chance to debate this important matter, using US examples as prompts.
Participants will be actively encouraged to participate throughout and, therefore, attendance in person is very much welcomed. There will be two themes, which can be summarised as:-
- Their world is not our world. Examples of modern / current US practice, each tabled for debate as to whether the approach shown in each could work, or even be acceptable, here in the United Kingdom.
- Examples of good modern developments, put forward for debate. They include the restoration, at least in part, of original structures.
We look forward to welcoming our PWI Members and guests in person courtesy of RSSB.
Meeting in-person from 17:00 for refreshments courtesy of the RSSB for a prompt 17:15 start.
